4 Great Ways to Eat Ice Cream That Don’t Involve a Cup or a Cone

One of my favorite things about summer, aside from Hydrangeas and flip-flops, is ice cream! There is almost nothing I like better than standing in the parking lot outside my local Frosty Caboose with a scoop of chocolate peanut butter dripping down my arm. It is truly my happy place.

In honor of summer and National Ice Cream Day (which is the 3rd Sunday of July), we’re breaking all the rules.

Here are 4 great ways to eat ice cream that will save you from the cup or cone rut:

Ice Cream Sandwich

There are so many different ways to make an ice cream sandwich, I could practically write this entire post about ice cream sandwiches. Yes, if you want to take the easy road, there are a few good options for store-bought, but you are only limited by your imagination, when your craft your own. Use any flavor ice cream and match with “sandwiches” of: Rice Cereal Treats, Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Waffles, Brownies, Profiteroles…..  The list is endless. Try them all!

Ice Cream Soda

Here, again, you can go crazy with all of the options. An ice cream soda is simply a combination of ice cream and soda or some other fizzy beverage. Here are some of our favorite combinations:

Milkshake

Crazy vanilla milkshake with whipped cream and colored sprinkles

Making a milkshake is easy. Ice cream, milk, maybe a little chocolate syrup. But have you ever wondered how to make one of those over-the-top concoctions popping up all over Instagram? Here are a few tips:

  1. Think about how you can transform your favorite dessert into a shake and let your imagination run wild. Use vanilla or chocolate ice cream and milk as a base and then think about what other flavors you need to get the flavor you want. Blend the ingredients together and pour them into a tall glass.
  2. Rim the glass with something sticky like frosting, cookie dough or caramel.
  3. Use the sticky rim to hold sprinkles, cookie crumbs, mini chocolate chips, etc., and stack your favorite sweet treats on top!

Blizzard

It’s easy to make your own thick blizzard at home with just ice cream and your favorite mix-ins. Here’s how:

Ingredients

Directions

Use an electric stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a handheld mixer (not a blender), and start with a chilled bowl to keep it thick. Mix ice cream on medium speed for about a minute, or until creamy. Add mix-ins and blend together on low speed until they are incorporated well into the ice cream. Grab a spoon and enjoy!
