National Ag Day | A Thank You to Our Local Farmers
National Ag Day this year is being celebrated today, on March 15th. It's a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture and by the amazing farmers that make it all possible.
Every year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and countless others across the U.S. join together to recognize the contributions of agriculture. National Ag Day is about recognizing, and celebrating, this contribution in our everyday lives.
The National Ag Day program encourages every American to understand how food and fiber products are produced, to value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy, and to appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.
And our mission at Farmview Market is to bring local, seasonal foods back into the local communities, through educating consumers about how their food is produced and provide them fresh, local, and nutritious offerings; and proving opportunities for local farmers to be involved in the local food system.
Did you know that each American farmer feeds more than 144 people? Quite simply, American agriculture is doing more and doing it better!
And, agriculture is king in our home state, contributing more than $72.5 billion annually to Georgia's economy. Agriculture is also a primary source of employment for Georgians, with one in seven in the state working in agriculture, forestry or related fields, according to the UGA Extension.
Georgia farmers even lead the nation in production of cotton, peanuts, pecans and watermelon. Georgia also leads the nation in broilers and value of egg production.
In our own community, we have wonderful farm operations. Check out some of our great, local farms on FARMeander. And if you are a Georgia or hyperlocal farmer who would like to supply your fresh foods at our open air farmers market, please fill out our application. We are gearing up for a Grand Opening event on April 30th, which will also be the first day of our full farmers market from the spring harvest.
Farmview Market would like to express our sincerest gratitude for ALL of our local farmers. Without your support and hard work, what we do simply would not be possible. Thank you for everything that you do!
