Georgia’s Home for Everything Local
How does a locally sourced lunch of a duck egg salad BLT on Luna white bread, with Reedy Creek greens, heirloom tomatoes and Farmview bacon with homemade chips sound? Or the Wellness Inside and Out Holiday Box with farm made soap, lotion, and bug spray? The box also includes lip balm and dental soap, honey and herbal tea. You can find all this and more at Farmview Market in Madison, GA.
While the market opened in 2016, the parent company, Kelly Products, has been part of the local agribusiness scene for a long time.
“Our president has a large farm in South Georgia where commercial crops are produced as well as our grassfed beef, heritage pork and heirloom corn,” Marketing and Communications Manager Laura Rotroff said. “We also have a certified naturally grown farm outside Madison, near Farmview where we produce fruits, vegetables, eggs and chickens.”
The market was opened to provide a venue to share these products with customers, and also to provide an outlet for other local farms. The core beliefs behind the market and its many activities are tied to the creation of a more sustainable food economy.
“Bringing local, seasonal foods back into local communities is a big part of this mission,” Rotroff said. “Additionally, educating our guests about how and where their food is produced and providing opportunities for local farmers to be involved in their truly local food system. We started with suppliers within a 50-mile radius and today we work with more than 200 suppliers in Georgia and the Southeast.”
Farmview Market has both fresh and prepared foods, and comfortable seating to enjoy the food and drink.
“It’s a unique retail experience. We have a grocery, gristmill, traditional full-service butcher shop (it all happens in-house), café and open air farmers market all in one place!” Rotroff said “It’s a comfortable, beautiful place to stop and spend some time on the way to your destination. The food is fabulous and so affordable.”
