Summer is fast approaching and with it comes an abundance of fresh fruits! Our Market is filled to the rafters with fresh, seasonal fruits like strawberries, watermelon, and cantaloupe. We’ve been reading up on the benefits of these fruits and the research is compelling. By adding more fruit into your day, you can reduce the risk of disease, fight aging with skin boosting properties, hydrate easily, and energize your body.
The easiest way to get a little extra fruit into your diet is by infusing your water! We found some incredible fruit-infused water combinations that can help you lose weight, detox your body, and even lower your blood-pressure. The easiest way to infuse your water is by placing the ingredients in a Mason jar or pitcher, and letting it sit overnight in the refrigerator. You’ll wake up to a healthy drink that curbs soda cravings and keeps you hydrated all throughout the day.
It’s recommended that adults drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, or about 2 liters (a half a gallon). By using fresh fruits and herbs, you’re more likely to drink water and you can reap the added benefits of the vitamins and healthy ingredients at the same time. Try these recipes for amazing skin, better health, and better hydration!
If you are diffusing softer fruits like citrus and strawberries, you can slice thick, thin, halved, or quartered pieces. Harder fruits, like apples should be sliced very thinly because they take longer to release flavors. Be sure to crush fibrous ginger root, rosemary, and lemongrass and tear herbs like mint, basil, and cilantro to release their oils.
The following recipes are designed to help you hydrate easily by using a standard 2-quart pitcher. If you plan to use a handheld water bottle with portable fruit infuser, you’ll want to scale down the ingredients by at least half, or potentially more:
1 whole lemon 1 whole orange 2 sprigs of fresh mint
1/2 pint of fresh strawberries 2 slices of watermelon (cubed) 1 lime or 6 mint leaves (optional)
1/2 pineapple cut into chunks, or 1 20 oz. can pineapple chunks [Pineapple currently unavailable at Farmview Market] 1⁄3 cup fresh mint leaves 1⁄2 cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
1 pomegranate, seeded 1 cup cherries 1 kiwi
1 cup blueberries 1 apple 1 orange
